Too much.

I don’t love to cook. But sometimes I make my husband a beautiful meal, because I want him to know he’s loved.

And I overdo it. Perfect poached eggs, salmon, smashed avo, homemade hollandaise, toasted sourdough. A perfect table. And a cup of Tielka, brewed three minutes to the second.

By the time it’s ready, I’m tired and flustered. And I’ve forgotten one thing: my husband is a late riser.

So he doesn’t bounce out of bed. I watch the eggs go cold and the hollandaise split. I get antsy, then I pester. Suddenly he’s the problem, and I’ve lost sight of why I made it.

The love through service was never the problem. The much was.

Next time, I might skip the hollandaise. A pot of tea for two, and nowhere to be, says it all.

When you take away the much, and keep one or two simple things, there’s still plenty of room to love well.

With love,
